This drink is wonderful in the summer time. I remember Grandma Engel making this and the fresh mint smelled so good! I like the higher syrup ratio myself. It is funny, on the original recipe in Grandma's short hand, she writes "H2O" for water!
2 1/2 cups water
2 cups sugar
2 oranges
6 lemons
2 handfuls of fresh mint
Boil sugar and water together for 10 minutes. Put strained juices of orange lemons in a deep mixing bowl. Pour hot syrup in a bowl. Put in mint then add juices, let cool. Strain into a jar. Refrigerate.
To serve, pour 1/3 cup syrup or 1/4 cup to suit taste over ice cubes in glass. Add water to fill glass. " Very good," says Grandma on the recipe card.
